Fresh, New!

For some time, I have been ignoring the pressing need to write- but today is a new day and today, I write! I have been wanting to create a new blog just for birthing and birthing business. for those who follow my Facebook pages, you will know that I love evidence based practice, research and the wisdom that comes from research becoming best practices, based on the knowledge of women and how their bodies are designed well to give birth. I will be writing on different issues, similar themes. These may become intentional, such as Mondays devoted to labour, Tuesdays breastfeeding, Wednesdays current research--we shall see! But in the meantime, let me introduce me!
Beginning with my own birth stories, my own history is nearly 31 years old. I was intrigues by the female body's capacity for birth and sought to understand all I could. I had all my children as naturally as possible in hospital settings. My intention was to seek out medical support from as natural a perspective as possible and consequently had some marvelous births! I knew nothing of doulas, of supports and wisdom, but I did know confidence in my own body's innate ability to give birth.
Many years ago, a dear friend invited me to witness her birth, to support her and to simply attend. This started the quest for more. Working with pregnant women, with women in general, came from the early childhood education background and knowledge that the prenatal experience profundly impacts the life of a family and of an individual. Armed with this, I continued to find ways to become more educated to be a better support in whatever way I could. I began practice after receiving education in doula support.
I took my first doula workshop with an amazing woman that I hold in very high esteem. She has since become a friend and mentor and I am so very grateful for the confidence she has had in me, helping me find my way on this journey toward women's wisdom. I repeated the course a few times on my way to certification, supporting women in birth along the way. Becoming a childbirth educator and breastfeeding support counselor rounded out my knowledge, but it also gave me that thirst for more. In that quest, my interest in research and best practices, my complete belief in women's innate ability to give birth, I have honed my direction to where I am now: doula and doula trainer, support and, to be honest, biggest birth cheerleader in my community! We have a lovely and lively birthing community in this region and I am so grateful to be a part of it!
The journey has also led me to invest in more supports. I have become a placenta encapsulator, own a birth tub for rental, have a home where women ar welcome to labour and birth and am available for private prenatal classes. I guess you could say I have added value to my practice, to ebcome more available in a broader but more directed manner.
So, day one of my BIRTHING BLOG. Stay tuned!
I would also value your comments! You can ask questions to direct the focus, question what I believe, ask me to find out more about subjects or even challenge me to go deeper--I welcome it!
With my thanks
